Overlooking Boulder City - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Boulder City was established when the Hoover Dam was being built for the workers to live in. Gambling was forbidden in the town, so unlike nearby Las Vegas it is free from casinos. This panorama was taken from new development plots overlooking Boulder City.

Lying some 20 miles southeast of Las Vegas in Nevada, Boulder City grew up to accommodate workers during the construction of the Hoover Dam in the 1930's. The original layout was based on a design by Saco Rienk DeBoer and intended to house 5,000 workers and their families. Today, Boulder City markets itself strongly as the closest city to the Hoover Dam. It is also one of only 2 cities in Nevada which prohibits gambling (Hacienda Hotel and Casino lies outside the city limits) and is often ranked as one of the top places to retire in the US.
