Maits Rest - FURTHER INFORMATION
Maits Rest - Great Otway National Park visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Maits Rest' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Victoria.
Panorama taken on the Maits Rest forest walkway, a specially constructed walkway through the rainforest in the Great Otway National Park in Victoria, Australia. The walkway is 800 meters long, very gentle and easy going and takes about 30 mins to comfortably stroll around.
This National Park was created when several State Forests and State Parks were combined into one. Notable for its diverse range of landscapes and vegetation, this park is well known internationally as being of outstanding natural beauty.
The rich volcanic soils and heavy precipitation produce forests filled with ferns, shrubs, lichen and moss. Lots of waterfall cascade down steep banks and form small rivers with fast flowing rapids. Myrtle beech, messmate stringybark, blue gum, mountain grey gum and manna gum are the most common trees found here. If wandering around the park after dark, you may spot glow worms similar to these.
The car park has picnic facilities and information boards to guide the visitor around the forest walk.
