View over Matheson Lake - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama was taken from the southern side of Lake Matheson on Vancouver Island. There is a walk that encircles the lake through the woods, but there are few points where it is possible to get a clear view for a panoramic image of the lake itself. This one was just off the path, standing on a narrow, moss covered rock face close to the water. While I was taking these images an otter popped up nearby in the water below. A magical moment.

Matheson Lake is in Matheson Lake Regional Park in Metchosin. The park covers some 162 hectares and the lake is popular for fishing and swimming. The lake rests at the foot of Mount Matheson in heavy woods. A 3km trail, the Matheson Trail, encircles the lake providing a relaxing environment for walks. The island in the middle of the lake is visible on the satellite view on the Google map, but not so clear in this picture.
Matheson Lake is close to Pedder Bay Marina and the town of Sooke.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Matheson Lake Regional Park is 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Victoria. The park is accessed via Matheson Lake Park Road, off West Coast Highway 14.
