Radar Hill - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panoramic picture from the viewpoint at the top of Radar Hill in Pacific Rim National Park. The panorama shows the view over part of the Esowista Peninsula and part of Clayoquot Sound. Sadly, there is not a viewpoint here that allows for a panoramic view of the whole of the peninsula, as the trees are too tall. The panorama was taken during late afternoon.
Radar Hill - FURTHER INFORMATION
Radar Hill - Pacific Rim visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Radar Hill' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Vancouver Island.
Radar Hill of the Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island used to be a radar station during WWII. The station was further bolstered during the cold war with support form the USA as part of the 'Pinetree Line' early warning system against possible attack from Russia. Today the former radar station offers panoramic views over parts of the surrounding coastline.
This panorama was taken facing the north and east. The largest and most prominent hills visible towards the right of the open area is Mount Colnett. To the left of this comes a gap with the peaks of the Bedingfield Range far in the distance. Further left is Lone Cone, with Mears Island and Catface Range. At the base of this is the Tofino Area.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Radar Hill is in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, about 10km from Tofino and 30km from Ucluelet.
