Red Rock Canyon Calico I - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

Taken late in the afternoon, this panorama shows the view from the first viewpoint in Red Rock Canyon. The sun was very low, turning the rocks here slowly more red. This viewpoint is about a mile from the entrance to the park.

Red Rock Canyon Calico I - FURTHER INFORMATION

Red Rock Canyon Calico I - Las Vegas visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Red Rock Canyon Calico I' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Nevada.

The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a few miles west of Las Vegas in Nevada. Within the park are large red sandstone peaks created by the Keystone Thrust. With vertical walls up to 1000m high, Red Rock Canyon is a very popular hiking and climbing area close to Las Vegas.

Within the park is a 13 mile long one-way driving loop (the Scenic Drive), which takes visitors within easy walking distance of many of the major attractions and formations within Red Rock Canyon. Maps of the park with hiking and biking trails are available from the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center, found close to the entrance to the park. The park contains over 30 miles of hiking trails.

The first formation within the park is Calico I. This panorama shows the view from the car park overlooking these striking rocks, which turn deep red in the setting sun. There is a trail which leads down to Calico I, allowing visitors to explore the rocks. People can be seen in this panorama on this path.

Visitors to Red Rock Canyon should also consider visiting the Valley of Fire State Park which, about an hour north of Las Vegas, contains even more spectacular rock formations.
