The Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur (Vienna Porcelain Manufacturer) has been in production since 1718 making porcelain fit for emperors. Some of the porcelain made here and used by the Habsburgs is now on display in the Silberkammer in the Hofburg.Augarten is a name world famous for top class porcelain. The traditional dinner services, bearing the names like Pacquier, Liechtenstain, Prince Eugene and Maria Theresa are known the world over. However, the most popular items for export remain the Lippizaner horses in the various haute école positions and others based on articles that date back to the time of Empress of Maria Theresa.
The Augarten itself is the oldest park in Vienna, it was laid out as an Imperial pleasure garden in the 17C and still contains the ruins of of the Alte Favorita, the Augarten Palace and the Josephsstöckl. The building occupied by the Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur used to be a Garden Pavilion where, from 1782, famous musical matinées directed by Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss' father were performed. The world premier of Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata was performed here.
