Seymour town established around the Railway Station and was the major transportation junction linking the colonial settlements across Victoria state.
100Km north of Melbourne, the town now prospers through agriculture producing sheep, cattle and wine. Nearby is the Puckapunyal Army Base, a major training center for the Australian Army and major employer within the town.
Seymour is also notable for the sporting successes of its inhabitants. Keenly promoting football, athletics and cricket, the town has an excellent indoor sports center and swimming pool and many sports clubs.
For visitors, Seymour offers a number of specialist interest museums such as the Army museum, the Railway Heritage Museum and an annual exhibition into alternative methods of farming. There are also tours of the many wineries and high class restaurants ensuring that the visitor has the best food and drink that the region produces on their doorstop.
