The Bowling Green is a the southern end of Broadway. This panorama shows the small park. The image was taken in spring, and there was a blanket of red tulips in full bloom in the central planting. Lots of tourists pause to take pictures of the famous Wall Street Bull, or Charging Bull statue just north of the park. In the middle of the tulip plantation is a fountain. Bowling Green is a small park at the southernmost end of Broadway in New York, a short walk from Battery Park and some 40 blocks south of Time Square. The Bowling Green is the oldest park in New York. In past times it was the starting point for ticker tape parades up Broadway, and this stretch of road became known as 'Canyon of Heros'. Lots of people pass through Bowling Green park having explored Wall Street and Lower Manhattan, pausing to take pictures of the Charging Bull statue that stands near the north entrance. In fact, so many tourists are here that it is often difficult to take a picture of the statue itself.On the southern edge of Bowling Green is the National Museum of the American Indian, and the square is within easy walking distance of the Staten Island Ferry pier, the New York Police Museum, Fraunces Tavern and the Museum of Jewish Heritage. Being close to Battery Park, the Bowling Green is also close to the East Coast Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, The Sphere monument and Castle Clinton, where tourist buy tickets for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
