Broken Hill - FURTHER INFORMATION
Broken Hill - Broken Hill visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Broken Hill' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from New South Wales.
Nicknamed the Silver City, Broken Hill was the location of the discovery of the world's largest silver, lead and zinc mine. Broken Hill offers mining tours and museums but also in insight into life in the harsh Australian outback and desert.
Just beyond the outskirts of this city, this other-worldly outback area comes to life with its wide open skies and panoramic vistas. The vibrancy of the colours of nature and the ethereal quality that the distinctive, clear sunlight brings out in them is famed for inspiring artists, photographers and for stirring the souls of visitors to this unforgettable place. The Sculpture Symposium is a living museum to the work of native artists and the atmospheric and beautiful surrounding desert landscape that inspired it. Do visit the many top-class art galleries that include collections by the Brushmen of the Bush.
Silverton, the setting of several Australian movies, is also popular with artists, with a friendly but quirky pub. At Menindee, you can marvel at the contrast between the lakes and the surrounding desert. This remarkable area is a true oasis.
