The Pool in Central Park New York - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama taken from the banks of The Pool in Central Park during the spring. The trees are beginning to leaf, providing some green to the image, but are small enough that you can still see the tree structures and the buildings around the park.
The Pool in Central Park New York - FURTHER INFORMATION
The Pool in Central Park New York - New York visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'The Pool in Central Park New York' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from New York.
The Pool is on the western side of Central Park in New York at 103rd street. It is hidden away from the main walkways in a secluded hollow, and considered to be the most natural lake within the park. Fed by water from a rocky grotto, surrounded by drooping willows and other trees, the Pool is an ideal place to relax and leave the rest of New York behind. Waters in the Pool are tinged green through algae that grow in it. Being set in a hollow, the waters are often quite still reflecting the sky and shorelines, an effect seen in this panoramic image.
In the autumn, the Pool is surrounded by a mass of colour as the leaves on the red maples, Osage orange, Mockernut hickory and American sycamore change colour. It is also a good place to spot great egrets. Waters from the Pool flow down The Loch and into Harlem Meer. In the woods to the north is the Blockhouse, an historic building from 1814 built in haste during the 1812 War, at the same time as Fort Clinton, also within Central Park and the Battery at Battery Park on the southern tip of Manhattan.
