Cheung Sha Lower Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama taken from Cheung Sha Beach on Lantau island. It was taken in the afternoon, and was a much quieter here than at the Tian Tan Buddha from which I had just come.
Cheung Sha Lower Beach - FURTHER INFORMATION
Cheung Sha Lower Beach - Hong Kong visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Cheung Sha Lower Beach' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hong Kong.
Cheung Sha lies on the souther side of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The beach is the longest in Hong Kong, almost 2km, though split into two halves by a headland, which has a walkway over the top. They are referred to as the Upper and Lower Beach. The Lower beach is nearer to Cheung Sha village, and has direct road access. It is a curved beach with fine, white sand. Set below the hills of Lantau, Cheung Sha is a good place to come and relax away form the more touristed parts of Hong Kong. From here you can watch the waves roll in and see both Siu A Chau and Shek Kwu Chau, two small islands a little distance offshore.
Cheung Sha lies on the South Lantau Road and, not being on the direct route to the Tian Tan Buddha, is by-passed by most tourists. However, it is very popular with Hong Kong residents and known for good surfing in the area. On the beach is a surfing rental shop, and next to it a restaurant. During the holidays and at weekends, Cheung Sha Beach can get very busy.
