Nelson Bay is the center for all things holiday and tourism on the Tomaree Peninsula. Most people who visit Port Stephens and the peninsula come here. Nelson Bay has the largest collection of hotels and holiday apartments. It is the home of the Port Stephens fishing fleet and a departure point for dolphin watch cruises. It is also the main departure point for scuba diving. The main tourist information office for the region is also found in Nelson Bay.
Nelson Bay is on the eastern end of the Toamree Penisula, and within easy striking distance of most of the beaches this region is famous for. These include the nearby beaches at Shoal Bay, Dutchmans Bay and the famous Stockton Beach at Anna Bay, where people flock to go ATV and 4x4 driving on the massive sand dunes.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Dutchmans Bay is on the Tomaree Peninsula, 200km north of Sydney. Take the 1 Pacific Highway to just north of Newcastle and then the 122 onto Tomaree Peninsula following signs for Nelson Bay.
