The ANZAC park in Brisbane sits between Ann Street and Adelaide Street. Together with the Shrine of Remembrance ANZAC war memorial, this is the most prominent memorial to the fallen of WWI in Queensland. The bottle trees in the square commemorate the Queensland Light Horse Regiments which served in South Africa's Boer War between 1899-1902. The date palms are commemorative of Australia's successes in the Middle East during WWI and WWII. The impact of the loss of life, predominantly men, on both <Australia and New Zealand was so large that ANZAC memorials are found in the major cities of both nations.
