Argyle Square is a square in Melbourne off Lygon Street in Carlton. The square has been built on the former site of the Carlton Bowling Club, which closed in 1995. The site was redeveloped during 2005 and Argyle Square opened in January 2006.
Argyle Square is in the Carlton district of Melbourne, close to Calrton Gardens, the Melbourne IMAX and the Melbourne Museum.
Arglye Square was developed around an Italian theme and contains a bronze solar clock which is surrounded by porphyry stone paving which came from the Trento region of Italy. The steel columns seen in this panoramic image provide some illumination at night. The Italian theme fits in well with the surrounding area which is full of restaurants and cafes with seating in the open lining the streets. The square is not much used during the day, but can be popular at night time.
