The Glasshouse in the Royal Botanic Gardens of Melbourne. The Glasshouse contains tropical plants from the tropical rainforests. The benefits to the world from tropical rainforest has been enormous, and a vast number of different types of food we take for granted originate from there. It is estimated that over 80% of the developed world's diet originated in the tropical rainforest. Items we take for granted today include fruits, spices, chocolate, cinamon, coffee and vanilla.

As well as containing a vast amount of biodiversity, the tropical rainforests play a crucial part in the carbon cycle, affecting rain fall and carbon levels on a global level
