The benefits to the world from tropical rainforest has been enormous, and a vast number of different types of food we take for granted originate from there. It is estimated that over 80% of the developed world's diet originated in the tropical rainforest. Items we take for granted today include fruits, spices, chocolate, cinamon, coffee and vanilla.
The rainforest has yet to be fully explored and it is thought that some plants may contain medically beneficial ingredients. These magnificent forests used to cover 14% of the surface of the earth. Today they have dwindled to 6% and continue to disapear at an alarming rate. As well as containing a vast amount of biodiversity, the tropical rainforests play a crucial part in the carbon cycle, affecting rain fall and carbon levels on a global level
