The Ornamental Lake is the largest lake in the in the Royal Botanic Gardens of Melbourne. It is surrounded by numerous different plant collections and various rest houses where visitors can relax and enjoy the views. South of the Ornamental Lake is Alexandra Avenue and the Yarra River. To the north are the rest of the gardens and the smaller Central Lake. In the middle of the Ornamental Lake are various islands, the largest of which is called Long Island and holds the Cycad Collection.
The Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne are considered to be the best gardens in Australia, and one of the top collections in the world. Visitor information is available from the Visitor Center, located at the Observatory Precinct at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, open seven days a week.
