Carlton Gardens in Melbourne have been designated a World Heritage Site. They are just to the north of the Melbourne CBD, and the 64 acre site contains the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum and Melbourne IMAX Cinema, tennis courts and an award winning children's playground.
Carlton Gardens are based on a Victorian English garden in layout with sweeping lawns and tree lined paths. The land was set aside for a garden in 1839 and have seen numerous changes in their lifetime. They were added to the World Heritage List in July 2004. The gardens are visited by most people on their way to the Melbourne Museum.
