The Royal Exhibition Building Melbourne stands in Carlton Gardens, close to the Melbourne IMAX Cinema and the Melbourne Museum, the largest museum in Victoria. The Royal Exhibition Building was designed by Joseph Reed, who also designed the Melbourne Town Hall. It was built for the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition held in 1888 to celebrate 100 years of European settlement of Australia.
The building is still used as an exhibition center in Melbourne, but is not the largest one available. It is now one of the oldest exhibition centres in the world, and the first non-Aboriginal cultural site in Australia to received World Heritage listing.
