The Gloriette stands at the highest point of the Schlosspark, the grounds that surround Schönbrunn Palace, and was built according to designs by Hohenberg for the Habsburgs in 1775. It has a central section inteded to be like a triumphal arch which is flanked by two wings with semi-circular arches. A statue of the Imperial Eagle adorns the top of the central section gazing back down onto the Schönbrunn Palace far below at the bottom of the hill.
Access to the top of the Gloriette is ticketed. From here you get a fantastic view over the grounds and the rest of Vienna. In the opposite direction to the Palace lie barracks.
