Soldiers Point Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama taken from the beach between the marina and the harbour wall at Soldiers Point. This was another encounter with soldier crabs which are quite small but move across the sand an large formations of several hundred animals when approached before disappearing into the sand itself. Thankfully they are moving away rather than towards, making the event amusing and interesting rather than horrifying.

Soldiers Point is on the end of a small peninsula stretching north from the Tomaree Peninsula in Port Stephens, New South Wales. This is the northernmost settlement on the peninsula, and a very popular tourist and holiday destination, not too far from Salamander Bay and Nelson Bay. It is believed to be named after the Corporal's Guard once stationed there and was previously called Friendship Point.
This panorama shows the beach on the eastern side of Soldiers Point. It is a long, exposed stretch of sand and not as popular as Sunset Beach on the western side. A little further to the south is Wanda Beach. The Soldiers Point Holiday Park is near to this beach. This town is quieter than other parts of Port Stephens and also offers fairly easy access to the wine tasting and vineyards of the Hunter Valley.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
