Victoria Square - FURTHER INFORMATION
Victoria Square - Adelaide visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Victoria Square' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from South Australia.
Victoria Square is the central focus of Adelaide in geographical terms. The square lies in the middle of the initial city, and is an oval bisected by Grote Street and Wakefield Street. The square was named after Princess Victoria in May 1837, who became Queen Victoria a month later. A statue of Queen Victoira stands in the center of the square.
At the north end of Victoria Square is a fountian that represents the three rivers which provide Adelaide with the bulk of it's water. These rivers are the Torrens, the Onkaparinga and the Murray. The fountains was designed by John Dowie. The fountain is shown in this panoramic image, as is the 24.5m high fake Christmas tree which is erected in the square for the season.
Victoria Square is surrounded by numerous important civic buildings, including the Magistrate's Court, the Federal Court of Australia and the Treasury. A number of large hotels, like the Hilton Adelaide, are also found around the square.
