Light Square is in the northwest corner of the central square mile of Adelaide. It is one of four squares that are in each quadrant of the CBD, with a fifth, Victoria Square at the center. Lights Square is named after Colonel William Light who designed the layout and development programme for the city when it was founded. There is a monument and statue of him at Light's Vison on Montefiore Hill just north of the CBD. There are numerous cheap hotels and hostels in the streets around Lights Square.
The other squares in Adelaide CBD are Hindmarsh Square, Hurtle Square and Whitmore Square.
