Palmhouse at Schönbrunn - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama showing the outside of the Palmhaus in Schönbrunn. This is a fantastic glass structure and was a major architectural and technical achievement when it was first built. This picture was taken on a sunny day late in the summer in 2006.

Palmhouse at Schönbrunn - Vienna visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Palmhouse at Schönbrunn' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Wien.
Palm House at Schönbrunn is located in the far west of the Schlosspark. It was designed by Franz Xaver Segenschmid and built between 1881/2 using the most advanced methods of the day. It is 113m long, built of an iron and glass structure. The central pavilion is 28m high and each of the two wings, or tunnel like passages, leading out from it are 25m high. The north wing houses temperate plants while the south wing houses tropical flora.
The Palm House at Schönbrunn was the last of its type to be built in continental Europe. More information about the current flora being grown in the Palm House can be obtained from Bundesgärten Schönbrunn.
The Palmhaus is at the far west of the Schlosspark, near to the Wüstenhaus (Desert House - also visible in this panorama) and close to the Hietzinger Tor (Hietzinger Gate) entrance to the park. Entrance to the Schönbrunn Palm House is ticketed.
