The Auckland Art Gallery is the principle art gallery in Auckland. It stands close to Albert Square and has the most extensive collection of national and international art in New Zealand. The gallery was founded in 1888, and was the first in the country. It has since expanded to the New Gallery over the road, which shows contemporary works.
