The Columbary (or dovecote) aviary at Schönbrunn Palace was built some time between 1750 and 1776. The wire structure has a copper domed roof topped with a lantern. Four walled alcoves which provide the birds with roosting space were added at a later date. The surrounding paths were laid out around 1760 and the Columbary is colloquially known as the 'Schönbrunn Merry-go-round'.
The Schloßpark contains many attractions including the Neptunbrunnen (Neptune Fountain) and Gloriette. Others like the Irrgarten (Maze Garden), Tiergarten (Zoo), Palmhaus (Palm House), Wüstenhaus (Desert House) and Kronzprinzgarten have ticketed entrance fees.
