Kilauea Caldera Steam Vents - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama showing the view over the Kilauea Caldera and the steam vents that line the rim. Here steam rises from numerous vents overlooking the massive crater - a striking reminder that this volcano is still very much active and near to the surface.

The Crater Rim Drive encircles the Kilauea Caldera in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. One of the stopping points on the drive are the steam vents that line the edge of parts of the massive crater. The crater is at a height of about 1200m and the area is often shrouded in mist and cloud. Other attractions along the rim include the Southwest Rift stop and Thurston Lava Tube, a ancient, hollow lava tube similar to the ones that now conduct molten lava 11km down the flank of the volcano to a point where the lava enters the sea.
