Salburua is a growing suburb in Vitoria-Gastiez, the capital City of Alava at the heart of Basque Country in the north of Spain.
Salburua is made up of four districts - Central, Tom Santos, Ibaialde and Arkayate. As the city is the new capital for the autonomous Basque Country, the population has rapidly increased so this new housing projected is expected to provide homes for around 30,000 people.
Nearby, the wetlands area in Salburua is of particular importance and home to many aquatic species and birds. It was recorded as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance and one of Basque Country's most important and protected ecological areas. An artificial lagoon was created when the area was regenerated in 1994, transforming it from a wasteland into this precious environment. There are two bird observatories and an information center at the wetland.
