Lady Norwood Rose Garden - Further Information

The Lady Norwood Garden form the large rose gardens within the Botanic Gardens in Wellington. It was opened in 1950, and also contains the glass Begonia House which was opened in 1960. Inside are over 3000 varieties of roses planted in many rose beds, providing a vast display of clolour when in bloom.

The gardens are named after Lady Norwood, wife of Sir Charles John Boyd Norwood, an influential Wellington businessman, Councilor and general Wellington enthusiast, in recognition of all that she had done for the city. In return, Lady Norwood donated the fountain which now stands at the center of the rose gardens, which have become a major tourist attraction in Wellington.
