Cable Car Station

Photographer Description of Cable Car Station

This panorama was taken from the boarding platform in the top Cable Car Station at an entrance to the Wellington Botanic Gardens. The picture was taken using a fill in flash to provide some extra light to illuminate the cable car and the structure. If yo zoom in on the satellite image of Wellington on the Google map, you can see one of the cable cars part way up the hill. There also is a more natural panorama of the station taken without the flash.

Cable Car Station - Further Information

The cable car is the most popular ways to get to the Botanic Gardens in Wellington, and the ride has become a major tourist attraction in the city. Aside from escaping the arduous walk up the steep hill, visitors are presented with an increasing view over Wellington and Wellington Harbour as the cable car ascends. The station at the top is also the entrance to the Botanic Gardens. Here there is a viewing platform giving further panoramic views over the city, and the Wellington Cable Car Museum and shop. The cable cars leave every 10 minutes or so, and people are keen to get the front seats.

Travel Directions and Getting There:
By cable car from Cable Car Lane, through the historic Bolton Street Memorial Park or via the lower entrance on Glenmore Street.
