Mount Victoria Trig Point - FURTHER INFORMATION
Mount Victoria Trig Point - Wellington visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Mount Victoria Trig Point' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Wellington Region.
Mount Victoria is probably the best known hill in Wellington. The top is 196m high offering panoramic views over the city and surrounding area. Mt Victoria is also the name given to the suburb of Wellington built on the slopes here, and there is a road tunnel connecting central Wellington with Evans Bay that runs under the hill. Nearby is the Victoria Peak Lookout, which, with clear views over the bay, is a popular tourist attraction.
Looking northwest from here is central Wellington, with Oriental Bay and Point Jerningham to the north. To the south are Evans Bay and Wellington Airport, whose runway extends from Evans Bay to Lyall Bay. To the southwest is Pol Hill in the Brooklyn district. This is another good viewpoint from which you can see over Cooks Straight to South Island on a good day, and has the Brooklyn Wind Turbine on the top.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Victoria Peak lookout is on Lookout Road. From Central Wellington take Oriental Parade, turning right into Grafton Gore Road just before Point Jerningham. This road winds up the hill becoming Grafton Road. Take a right into Pallister Road, then left into Thane Road and, finally, right into Lookout Road.
