The presbytery of Winchester Cathedral is towards the eastern end of the church, and forms the space between the chancel (or choir area) and the high altar of the church. It is here that the clergy and officiants of the church gather during services. The reredos shown in this image above the high altar date from the 16th century, but the statues around it are Victorian. In Winchester Cathedral there are aisles on either side of the presbytery with offer access to the transepts. Behind the high altar is the retroquire and the Lady Chapel.
