The Sir Walter Tyrell Inn is a traditional country inn and pub set in the heart of the New Forest in Hampshire. It is named after Sir Walter Tyrrell, who accidentally killed King Rufus with an arrow shot during a hunting trip in 1100. He then fled to France. The Sir Walter Tyrell Inn is well known for good food, and has a reputable restaurant. It is also well frequented by day trippers walking in the New Forest. The Inn also offers rooms for those wishing to stay.
Just a short walk from here is the Rufus Stone marking the point where King Rufus fell. His body lay unattended for a few days and was then carried to Winchester Cathedral by a local charcoal-burner. Rufus was interred within Winchester Cathedral.
