Lyall Bay is on the south side of the Rongotai isthmus in Wellington. The curved bay has the long, sandy Lyall beach which is popular with kite surfers and wind surfers, who use the far western end. At low tide, beach kiting can also be seen. Being next to the airport, and often with strong, cold, southerly winds form Cook Straight, Lyall Beach is not the most popular beach in Wellington.

Lyall Parade runs along the back of the beach. It is linked to Evans Bay by Onepu Road and Evans Road.
