The Wienflussportal (Vienna River Gate) quayside and pavilions were designed in 1905 by Friedrich Ohmann. The design set out to both complement the existing Stadtpark U-Bhan station next to it and to be an artistic statement. As such, the Wienflussportal follows the Jungendstil school of art that was coming into it's own at the time. The Wienfluss (Vienna River) runs down a canal inside the river before joining the Danube.
