Grassalkovich Palace (Grasalkovičov palác) is the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, and thus the seat of the President of Slovakia. It stands on the northern edge of the Old Town, next to the Summer Archbishop's Palace.
Grassalkovich Palace is a Rococo/late Baroque style summer palace with a French garden built in 1760 for Count Antal Grassalkovich. Throughout it's history, the palace has been associated with both ruling power and music, and the composer Joseph Haydn premiered some of his works here.
Grassalkovich Palace was the seat of the president of the First Slovak Republic between 1939-45 and was then handed over for use by school children who sadly damaged much of the interior. After the Velvet Revolution in 1989 the palace once again became a government building and was reconstructed and repaired, becoming the official residence of the President of Slovakia in 1996.
