Stadtparksteg - FURTHER INFORMATION
Stadtparksteg - Vienna visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Stadtparksteg' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Wien.
The Wienfluss (River Wien or Vienna River) enters the Stadtpark from the south through the Wienflussportal (Vienna River Gate). Most of the time the river is more like a small stream flowing down the vast canal. However, the source of the Wienfluss is in Wienerwald near Rekawinkel. During spring when the snow melts and the rainfall is largest, the flow of the Wienfluss changes from about 200 liters per second to a vast 450,000 liters per second.
Vienna used to suffer from regular floods when the Wienfluss burst it's banks within the city, and cholera epidemics were not unknown. The large canal has put an end to this threat. The Wienfluss empties into the Donaukanal (Danube canal) north of the Stadtpark, a branch of the Danube that flows through the center of Vienna.
This bridge across the Wienfloss opened in 1985. It is a 27m long steal arch footbridge and was designed by Hermann Czech. The eastern part of the park lies in the 3rd, Landstraße, district of Vienna and the western half lies in the 1st, Innere Stadt, district. The Weinfloss forms the district borders.
