Urania - FURTHER INFORMATION
Urania - Vienna visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Urania' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Wien.
The Urania in Vienna was built in 1910 in the shape of an unorthodox ship. This not only made good use of the space, but also acts as a nod to the location as the Wienfluss enters the Donaukanal next to the building. It started off life as an education centre and had an observatory on top.
Bombed during WWII, the Urania was rebuilt with a new observatory and opened again in 1957. The Urania continues it's educational vocation and a large range of lectures are given in the seminar rooms.
The Urania also contains puppet theater originally created by Hans Kraus. There is also a cinema in which the Urania hosts the annual Viennale film festival
