A remarkably scenic seafront of brightly coloured houses gives Bermeo harbour it's reputation as a picture-postcard location to visit, but the centuries old traditional seafaring charm, dedication to excellence in supplying the finest seafood cuisine and of course its welcoming hospitality make Bermeo a delightful place to visit.
Founded in 1239, Bermeo has a long and proud history and it remains the most important fishing town on the Biscay coast. Many monuments and architectural antiquities have been preserved as testimony to the rich and eventful history of this town. These attractions to visit include the cloister of the church of San Francisco which dates back to 1357; the Fisherman's Museum which is houses in the Gothic tower of Ercilla, the churches of Santa María and of Santa Euphemia on the harbourside next to the whaling ship, the "Aita Guria". The 14th century Arch of San Juan has a medieval feel and lends an atmospheric charm to the old town streets. The 18th century City Hall has an ornate facade with two sundials. Also worth seeing is the Casa Kinkubera, a curious structure reminiscent of a boat.
