The Avon River flows along the edge of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and through the middle of Christchurch in New Zealand. The Māori name for the river is Otakaro or Putare Kamutu. A popular activity for tourists is punting on the Avon River.

The river was named after the River Avon in Falkirk, Scotland, and must not be confused with the River Avon that flows through Christchurch in Dorset, England.
