Vasile Alecsandri Square at Christmas - FURTHER INFORMATION
Vasile Alecsandri Square at Christmas - Beltsy visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Vasile Alecsandri Square at Christmas' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Beltsy.
Christmas-time snow in one of Europe's largest squares - Vasile Alecsandri Square seen here in summertime, in central Beltsy in Moldova. Large decorated Christmas fir trees adorn the Vasile Alecsandri Square and children and shoppers are enjoying snowball play-time.
Around the square are many restaurants and cafes offering international cuisine including Turkish and Japanese food. There are also night-clubs and shops - indeed, it is one of the central areas for entertainment and recreation in Beltsy. You can also take a walk from here in Vasile Alecsandri Square, along the boulevard to Central Independence Square - a popular and enjoyable evening-time walk.
This square is home to the National Theatre, appropriate because it is named for Vasile Alecsandri, the Romanian poet, playwright, politician and diplomat who lived from 1821-1890. He was one of the main advocates in the advancement of Romanian cultural identity and in the union of Moldavia and Wallachia. He was born in the Moldovian town of Bacău.
