Cathedral Square is the main square in Christchurch, and a focal point for many tourists. It is dominated by the Gothic ChristChurch Cathedral whose 63m spire rises majestically above the city. The square is full of stalls and surrounded by important municipal buildings. The city tram terminates on the northern side before setting off on a circular circuit taking visitors to many of the main attractions within Christchurch. Cathedral Square also contains numerous sculptures and it is common to see various street performers and artists are found here.
Numerous hotels are found near to Cathedral Square, and the Christuchurch Tourist Information Centre is on the south side, offering information about the sights, attractions, tours, car hire and hotels both within Christchurch and throughout Canterbury.
