Cranmer Square is an important historic square in Christchurch, first laid out in 1860's during the development of the Educational Precinct. Some of the original educational buildings remain, listed as heritage buildings in the Christchurch City Plan. Today it is mostly surrounded by 2-storey town houses and appartments of various ages. One of the most famous of these is Cranmer , a superb 1870s historic stone townhouse. Cranmer square is a Special Amenity Area (SAM) and classified as SAM 32.

- 1876 former Normal School/Cranmer Court
- 1863 early settlers cottage
- c1910 Windsor Private Hotel former Warwick House
- c1870 two storey wooden residence At the time of writing (2008), Cranmer Square also had a number of listed trees:
- English Ash (Fraxinus excelsior)
- 13 Oriental Plane trees (Platanus orientalis)
- 6 London Plane trees (Platanus x acerifolia)
- Pin Oak (Quercus palustris)
- 8 English Oak ( Quercus robur)
- Common Lime (Tilia x europea)
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Cranmer Square lies between North Hagley Park and the River Avon. The northern loop of the Christchurch Tram runs along the southern edge of the square.
