Duvauchelle - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama of Duvauchelle on the Banks Peninsula taken on an overcast day. This is a small village, with a gas station, shop and restaurant overlooking the bay. Not many people stop here. This panorama was taken on an overcast day, with clouds over the sea and hills around Duvachelle providing a dramatic backdrop.
Duvauchelle - FURTHER INFORMATION
Duvauchelle - Banks Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Duvauchelle' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Canterbury.
Duvauchelle is a small village on the Banks Peninsula a short distance from Akaroa. There is a very deep inlet on the southern side of the Banks Peninsula, which almost cuts to the middle of the Peninsula. Duvauchelle is at the far northern end, between Barrys Bay and Robinsons Bay.
Duvauchelle has a few campsites nearby, and also provides a small amount of B&B type holiday accommodation and appartments for those who want to stay on the Banks Peninsula but not within Akaroa itself, which has numerous hotels and is much more busy.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Duvauchelle is on the Christchurch-Akaroa road (75), about 72km from Christchurch and 8km from Akaroa. It lies at the northern end of the cove at the base of steep hills. Pigeon Bay Road winds up into the hills to meet Summit Road, making for a very dramatic descent into Duvauchelle. This route is popular with tourists.
