Governors Bay is nestled in Port Hills at the far end of Lyttelton Harbour on the Banks Peninsula , about 12km from the open sea. Most of the houses are built on the steep side of the Dyers Pass hills and have stunning views over to Lyttelton, Quail Island and the surrounding coastline. Facing north, and sheltered from the wort weather, Governors Bay is well known for good weather most of the year.
Governors Bay is becoming one of the more popular tourist destinations on the Banks Peninsula. The village has a relaxed atmosphere with a few hotels and the main road is lined with cafes and good restaurants. Governors Bay makes an ideal location to explore the wider region, within easy driving distance to Lyttelton, Chirstchurch and Akaroa, offering visitors a wide range of sights to see and activities.

Governors Bay is about 13 km from Christchurch driving over Cashmere Hills. It is 10 km from Lyttelton along a picturesque coastal road and 70 km from Akaroa.
