Victoria Square used to be called 'Market Square' and was the commercial heart of Christchurch. The triangular square lies on the corner Colombo Street and Armagh Street, just north of Cathedral Square and ChristChurch Cathedral. The square is bounded on one side by the Avon River and contains fountains, old horse drinking stations by the river, and statues of both Queen Victoria (seen in this panorama) and Captain Cook.
