Charteris Bay is one of the small settlements near Diamond Harbour on the northern side of the Banks Peninsula. Here the road winds around the coastline from Governors Bay giving great views across the bay and over to Otamahua Island. There is a small cluster of houses along the shoreline, some of which offer bed and breakfast (like the Charteris Bay Bed and Breakfast) or other sorts of rented holiday accomodation for visitors. Many of the holiday units are self-contained and self-catering.
Charteris Bay is a restful, unhurried village, providing visitors with the chance to unwind and relax, and yet be within relatively easy driving distance of other attractions in the region like Lyttelton and Akaroa. Within Charteris Bay itself is a golf course and a yacht club. Activities available to visitors include fishing, sailing, dolphin watching, boat cruises, kayaking, golf and much more. It is a good base from which to explore much of the Banks Peninsula, knowing that at the end of each day Charteris Bay offers a quiet retreat in open surroundings.
