Bank Peninsula Hills near Purau - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama was taken near the top of the pass over the hills on the Banks Peninsula from Purau to Port Levy. The clouds were very low when the image was taken, at times threatening to obscure the tops of the hills. The roads here are steep and windy, the terrain remote, open and rugged, the drive wonderful. There is a car parked in almost the same spot on the satellite view of the Banks Peninsula on the Google map.

The Purau Port Levy Road winds quickly up the hills and valleys from Purau into the remote regions of the Banks Peninsula. The road is narrow, but the scenery is dramatic, with steep valleys and open grassland, probably suitable only for grazing. The area is good for walking and hiking. After reaching this layby at the top of pass, the road descends in equally dramatic fashion to Port Levy.
