North Hagley Park Lake - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama showing the smaller lake in North Hagley Park. At the time this picture was taken, the local model yacht club was holding a regatta on the lake and racing their model sailing yachts around it, following the passage of their boats closely as they walked around the shore. Some of these model boats can be seen in this picture on the lake.

North Hagley Park is north of the Botanic Gardens in Christchurch. There are two lakes within the park, one is shown in this image, the other, Victoria Lake, is next to it, obscured by the trees. Hagley Park was created in 1855 by the Provincial Government who declared that it be 'reserved forever as a public park, and shall be open for the recreation and enjoyment of the public'. It is often used for outdoor events, both local and international, and was the location of the New Zealand International Exhibition in 1906-1907. Today it is used for personal recreation, concerts and circuses.
