North Head is a headland in Sydney on the northern side of Sydney Harbour close to Manly. Part of North Head is home to the Sydney Harbour National Park. Along North Head is a scenic drive (aptly called the 'North Head Scenic Drive') with a few laybys and seating. This panorama was taken from one such lay by and shows a view over the harbour. The most prominent headlands visible to the south house HMAS Penguin and HMAS Watson, both naval bases.
North Head is just on of several headlands projecting into the entrance of Port Jackson, more commonly called Sydney Harbour. Collectively they are simply referred to as 'the Heads', and are made of North Head and Quarantine Head on the northern side, South Head and Dunbar Head on the south and Middle Head, Georges Head and Chowder Head to the west and within the bay.
