Hong Kong Airport Departure Area - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Hand held panorama showing some of the restaurants and duty free shops in the international departure area of Hong Kong Airport. The panorama, taken from a balcony overlooking other parts of Hong Kong Airport, is not perfectly aligned, but does show some of the airport architecture.

Hong Kong Airport Departure Area - Hong Kong visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Hong Kong Airport Departure Area' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Internatioal Airport (HKIA) is built on reclaimed land on the edge of Chek Lap Kok island in Hong Kong, and often referred to locally as Chek Lap Kok Airport (though most non-local people think the airport is on Lantau Island). The airport code are IATA code: HKG, and ICAO code: VHHH. It is the main arrival point for visitors to Hong Kong from all over the world, and a transit hub for other destinations with China and Asia. Opened in 1998, Hong Kong Airport handles nearly 50 Million passengers and 4 million tonnes of cargo each year.
The airport has two terminals, both with all the modern facilities you would expect, and packed full of shops, entertainment, bars, cafes and restaurants. Tourist information offices and kiosks scattered throughout the airport provide information for those arriving in Hong Kong, and are a good place to pick up maps of the area and brochures with information on the latest exhibitions, events and attraction. These brochures are worth picking up as they also contain discounts to various places in Hong Kong, including hotels and restaurants.
Naturally, as with any airport, there are numerous hotels nearby. Again the tourist information desks will be able to help you locate and book a room in a hotel if you have not made any hotel bookings before you arrive in Hong Kong.
